      Kotlin - Ready for production

      Hadi Hariri

Did you know that Kotlin is being used in production for over a few years now already? Both inside and outside of JetBrains there are people deploying Kotlin applications for Android platform, for Web Applications and just about any other type of application. Why are people using it instead of Java or some of the other languages out there? Primarily because it provides significant benefits in terms of conciseness, readability and safety, without some of the drawbacks that adopting a new language has such as a higher learning curve or interoperability with existing code and ecosystems. In this talk we'll cover some aspects of Kotlin that can really help you in your daily development, focusing on solving issues versus highlighting language features.

Developer and creator of many things OSS, his passions includes Web Development and Software Architecture. Has authored a couple of books, a few courses and has been speaking at industry events for nearly 15 years. Currently atJetBrains leading the Developer Advocacy team. Spends as much time as he can writing code.

Gode smidige praksiser for global utvikling

      Nils Brede Moe

Moore's law halted, and we caught fire

      Claire Blackshaw

Since the rise of the transistor we have all banked on an endless spiral of doubling and our code sucks. As someone from the game industry where cycles matter and frames are counted Claire takes a hard look at the future of wearables and virtual reality. Why is it all terrible and it's your fault and how can we possible fix it as we move into the future of exploding batteries and past due programming. The substance of the talk is around performance, real time computing and modern bottlenecks. Tangentially how this applies to the mobile and low energy market. Taking lessons from performance critical world of games and shifting them into a broader base.

Claire is a queer geeky Creative Programmer with a passion for learning and general insanity. She works as Senior Online Consultant at Sony in London UK. When not programming, playing games, roleplaying, learning, or reading. She started in the industry as a programmer, moved into design then bounced back between the two. Spending her days consulting various Playstation projects on online design and technical points. She has shipped several titles across eight platforms. Claire has also worked on R&D projects, pitches, consulting and developing a reputation as that crazy "left field" chick who codes.

      Offentlig IT v2.0

      Christin Gorman

Ondskap? Er konsulentene for grådige? Er det manglende kompetanse hos statlige tilsatte? Feil metodikk? Feil organisering? Har vi for mange systemer? For få?

Christin is an enthusiastic programmer and public speaker who started off working in the oil sector in 2000. In 2010 she began contracting for the public sector and was blown away by how inefficiently software development projects were run. She has since been actively involved in trying to change how public sector software development is organised.

Safe continuous delivery in a large scale stateful multi tentant system

      Haakon Dybdahl

Running a large scale cloud service for multiple tenants reveals some real challenges such as stale test data, long execution time, manual procedures that might be executed incorrectly. To address these issues we have created a state-of-the-art system with a continuous build pipeline per tenant, with automatic generation of test input data based on real usage.

I am a backend engineer in Yahoo that like systems that have good test coverage, easy to deploy, transparent, and that solve hard problems.

JUnit 5 : Next Generation Testing on the JVM

      Nicolai Parlog

Java’s most ubiquitous library is getting an update! And this is the time to see what’s new and weigh in on its course. This talk will: show you how to write tests with JUnit 5; walk you through the changes compared to JUnit 4; present the new architecture; discuss compatibility with previous JUnit versions, IDEs, and other testing tools. Be careful, though: You might end up with an urge to start using it right away.

Nicolai is a thirty year old boy, as the narrator would put it, who has found his passion in software development. He constantly reads, thinks, and writes about it, and codes for a living as well as for fun. He works as at Disy, Germany’s leading provider for spatial and environmental IT-solutions, where he improves the flagship product. He started blogging in September 2014 and is a long-tail contributor to several open source projects.

      Gunnar Bergersen

People often discuss the number of heads or resources that are needed for a development project. Unfortunately, developers are not equal in their capacity to produce software. This presentation discusses competence in software development and the mistakes companies make about evaluating it.

Gunnar Bergersen is an associate professor at the University of Oslo, where he does research on software developers. He also works with more authentic ways to assess developer skills as the CEO of the start-up company Technebies. Gunnar is a below-average developer who used to think he was quite good at programming.

Breaking the Fourth Wall with JavaScript

      Mikael Brevik

The dawn of ES201* is around us, no doubt. But many are focusing more on the superficial changes to JavaScript, and not on the more interesting semantic changes. Like JavaScript Proxy. Now we can do more metaprogramming than ever. What does this mean and what can we do with that? In this presentation we’ll see how we can do more metaprogramming and how we can use some of it’s properties to do fun, and sometimes stupid, implementations.

Mikael Brevik is a programmer. While he enjoys many other languages, he usually falls back to his real love; JavaScript. He likes to contribute to open source, and maintains a couple of popular JavaScript-libraries in his spare time. When he is not programming he organizes a JavaScript meetup in Trondheim and hosts a budding Norwegian JavaScript podcast.

A digital entertainment browser – sharing our thoughts of building a post–App era

      Borgar Ljosland

The web is evolving into a world of services easily accessible for coders. It has become almost trivial to get access to huge compute and network resources, machine learning algorithm, sentiment analysis, natural language interpreters, people´s social networks and what not. Making a system that would require relatively large and skilled organizations just a few years ago is relatively easy through open / commercially available APIs. In the midst of this paradigme ParrotPlay is launching a dedicated browser, in lack of a better classification, for digital entertainment. We want to share our thoughts and strategies for building a product/service in a post-App era, and touch upon some of the challenges we are facing from a UX / business perspective.

Now that we are truly diversified - JavaScript runs on everything, including your toaster. .NET has been ported to just about everything as well and made open-source. Java has been delivering on this same promise for years. Where does that leave us from a tooling perspective, deployment model and more importantly; process. The talk will concretely show how Visual Studio Code can help you go across the different platforms, target different platforms and show how you can pull it all together in VSTS and the new release management bits to really deliver on the DevOps philosophy. Key topic in this talk is also feedback-loop.. How can we keep it as tight as possible throughout the lifecycle of development and delivering.

      Eirik F. Wahl

Spillet Race Day er laget av Bertheussen IT i Trondheim.

Rise of the digital nervous system

      Gustaf Josefsson

Humanity have always been intricately entangled with our technology. Now the border between the physical and the digital is beginning to dissolve completely. Are the machines taking over, or did they already do that centuries ago? What does this mean for our corporations, our governments, and our beliefs about the world?

Gustaf Josefsson is a ’voice of a generation’. He does not only speak about, but live and breathe the future. He is a maker and a creator.
